About the Artist
Marti Miller Hubbell's home has always been in San Benito County, California where her ancestors first settled in the 1860s. She was raised on the ranch that her great-grandfather homesteaded in 1882, which her brother and family continue to operate today. Marti and her husband John live about 30 miles away on the Hubbell Ranch where they base their stocker cattle operation. It's easy to see why ranching is in her blood.
After working as a legal secretary/paralegal for almost 40 years, she retired 15+ years ago so that she could pursue her artistic passions.
The self-taught artist celebrates California's rich ranching heritage and her love of nature and the outdoors in her paintings. She helps her husband in their stocker cattle operation, which gives her the opportunity to chronicle the cowboy lifestyle up close and personal.
"While I hope that my passion for the west and its inhabitants is evident, I give equal importance to the honesty and accuracy of my paintings. Nothing is contrived. These are scenes from my life."
Marti works primarily in colored pencil and oil, but she occasionally uses acrylic, watercolor or graphite.
Marti has participated in various shows including the Bosque Art Show, Clifton, Texas; Cowgirl Up! Art Show, Wickenburg, Arizona; the Cattlemen's Western Art Show, Paso Robles; the Mountain Oyster Art Show, Tucson; AQHA Horses in Art Show, Amarillo; the Cow Palace Art Show, San Francisco; Art of the West Exhibit, Northeastern Nevada Museum, Elko; and the Buckaroo Art Roundup, Winnemucca.
